The MedLite® C6 works by targeting the unwanted tattoo and exposing it to a beam of intense laser light, delivered in pulses. This experience has been described as similar to the sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Each pulse of light disintegrates the dye, breaking it up into manageable particles that can be eliminated naturally by the body's filtration system. It is not designed to affect the actual skin so very little risk of scarring or damage exists. Because the procedure is not considered painful, anesthesia is not required. In fact, getting a tattoo is usually more painful than getting it removed with laser tattoo removal.

However, topical anesthesia may be applied to reduce discomfort.

A series of a short sessions is required to eliminate the tattoo. In the weeks following each session, the targeted tattoo gradually fades. Eventually, it disappears altogether.

Darker colors such as black and blue, respond to treatment well, however lighter colors such as green and yellow may also be targeted effectively, though more sessions

may be required. The exact number of sessions required depends a number of factors, including the size, color, depth of ink and type of tattoo.
